Microcaracrinus was named by Strimple and Watkins (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-l P Sakm]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pachylocrinidae by Pabian and Strimple (1974); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Staphylocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978) and Webster and Webster (2012).
