Scytalocrinus was named by Wachsmuth and Springer (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u C Step-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Scytalocrinidae by Lane et al. (2001); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
