Ovula rostralina was named by Deshayes (1865).

It was recombined as Transovula rostralina by Cossmann and Pissarro (1904); it was recombined as Simnia (Neosimnia) rostralina by Glibert (1963); it was recombined as Simnia rostralina by Dolin and Ledon (2002).
