Quasipetalichthys was named by Liu (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 521]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Quasipetalichthyidae.
It was assigned to Macropetalichthyidae by Denison (1978); to Petalichthida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Quasipetalichthyidae by van der Laan (2019).
