Yunnanolepis was named by Liu (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Yunnanolepididae.
It was assigned to Bothriolepidae by Denison (1978); to Yunnanolepidae by Wang (1994); and to Antiarcha by Sepkoski (2002).
