Cantioscyllium was named by Woodward (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno K Turo Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Scylliorhinidae by Jordan (1963); to Orectolobiformes by Underwood (2002) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Ginglymostomatidae by Kriwet et al. (2009).
