Burgundia was named by Dehorne (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo K Haut Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Burgundia trinorchii.

It was assigned to Burgundiidae by Wood (1987); and to Tabulospongida by Sepkoski (2002).
