Asineops was named by Cope (1870) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Eo-m-l Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant. Its type is Asineops squamifrons.
It was assigned to Aphredoderidae by Hay (1902); and to Acanthomorpha by Sepkoski (2002).
