Blochius was named by Volta (1800) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2,863]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Sclerodermi by Agassiz (1835); to Rostrati by Giebel (1847); to Blochioides by Pictet (1854); to Blochioidei by Bleeker (1859); to Acanthomorpha by Sepkoski (2002); and to Blochiidae by Schultz (1987), Fierstine (2006), Carnevale et al. (2014), Bannikov (2014).
