Taxonomy
Urkudelphis chawpipacha was named by Tanaka et al. (2017). Its type specimen is MO-1, a partial skull ((premaxilla, maxilla, vomer, pterygoid, frontal, parie- tal, interparietal, alisphenoid, squamosal and supraoccipital), including the right periotic, right tymp), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Montañita/Olón, which is in a Chattian coastal sandstone in the Dos Bocas Formation of Ecuador. It is the type species of Urkudelphis.
