Excalibosaurus was named by McGowan (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-l]. It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Eurhinosaurus by Maisch and Matzke (2000).
It was assigned to Eurhinosauria by Motani (1999); to Ichthyosauria by Sepkoski (2002); to Neoichthyosauria by Fischer et al. (2013); and to Leptonectidae by McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Ji et al. (2016).
It was synonymized subjectively with Eurhinosaurus by Maisch and Matzke (2000).
