Taxonomy
Orthis davidsoni was named by de Verneuil (1845). Its type specimen is YPM 10419, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hesperorthis davidsoni by Bassett and Cocks (1974), Jin et al. (1993) and Rubel (2011).
