Taxonomy
Cheliderpeton was named by Fritsch (1877). It is not extant. Its type is Cheliderpeton vranyi.

It was assigned to Eryopidae by Carroll (1988); to Actinodontidae by Yates and Warren (2000); to Intasuchidae by Schoch and Milner (2000); and to Stereospondylomorpha by Schoch and Witzmann (2009).
