Orlovichthys was named by Krupina (1980). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Dipteridae.
It was assigned to Dipnoi by Campbell and Barwick (1990); to Orlovichthyinae by Krupina (2004); to Rhinodipteridae by Clement (2012); and to Dipteridae by van der Laan (2019).
