Chanaresuchus was named by Romer (1971). It is not extant. Its type is Chanaresuchus bonapartei.
It was assigned to Proterochampsia by Nesbitt (2011), Dilkes and Arcucci (2012); to Proterochampsidae by Romer (1971), Cruickshank (1978), Carroll (1988), Benton (1990), Parrish (1993), Nesbitt et al. (2009), Trotteyn et al. (2013); and to Rhadinosuchinae by Ezcurra et al. (2015), Ezcurra (2016).
