It was assigned to Crocodylidae by Carroll (1988); to Crocodyloidea by Puértolas et al. (2011); to Tomistominae by Kobayashi et al. (2006), Piras et al. (2007), Brochu (2007), Jouve et al. (2008), Shan et al. (2009), Jouve et al. (2015) and Jouve (2016); and to Gavialoidea by Rio and Mannion (2021).
