Taxonomy
Dianchungosaurus was named by Young (1982). Its type is Dianchungosaurus lufengensis.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Weishampel and Witmer (1990); it was considered a nomen dubium by Norman et al. (2004).
It was assigned to Tianchungosauroidea by Zhao (1983); to Heterodontosauridae by Young (1982), Zhao (1985), Carroll (1988) and Dong (1992); and to Mesoeucrocodylia by Barrett and Xu (2005) and Irmis and Knoll (2008).
