Taxonomy
Costacopluma squiresi was named by Nyborg et al. (2009). Its type specimen is LACMIP 13560 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP loc. 11688, Quarry Canyon, which is in a Thanetian shallow subtidal siltstone/limestone in the Santa Susana Formation of California.
