Mimomys was named by Forsyth-Major (1902). It is not extant. Its type is Arvicola pliocaenicus.
It was assigned to Microtinae by Kurten and Anderson (1980); to Cricetidae by Forsyth Major (1902), McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Arvicolidae by Krukover and Chekha (1999).
