Cleoniceras (Aioloceras) besairiei was named by Collignon (1949).

It was recombined as Cleoniceras (Paracleoniceras) besairiei by Collignon (1963); it was recombined as Paracleoniceras besairiei by Besairie and Collignon (1972); it was recombined as Aioloceras besairiei by Kennedy and Klinger (2012).
