Taxonomy
Hydrodamalis cuestae was named by Domning (1978). Its type specimen is UCMP 86433, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Avilla Beach W, which is in a Piacenzian offshore shelf sandstone in the Pismo Formation of California.
