Solemys was named by de Lapparent de Broin and Murelaga (1996). It is not extant. Its type is Aplolidemys gaudryi.

It was assigned to Solemydidae by Pereda-Suberbiola et al. (2000) and Milner (2004); and to Helochelydridae by Joyce (2017).
