Taxonomy
Araucarites was named by Presl (1833) [in Sternberg]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Araucarites goepperti.
It was assigned to Araucarineae by Chandler (1961), Chandler (1961), Chandler (1963), Chandler (1964); to Coniferales by Andrews (1970), Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Chandra and Tewari (1991); and to Araucariaceae by Knowlton (1919), Upchurch et al. (1994), Iglesias (2016).
