Desmanella stehlini was named by Engesser (1972). Its type specimen is NMB AL 159, Switzerland, a tooth (M1 sup. dext.,). Its type locality is Anwil, Baselland, which is in a MN 7 + 8 fluvial-lacustrine horizon in Switzerland.
