Hedstroemia was named by Rothpletz (1913). It is not extant. Its type is Hedstroemia halimedoides.
It was assigned to Porostromata by Senowbari-Daryan et al. (1993); to Pseudoudoteaceae by Dragastan et al. (1999); and to Garwoodiaceae by Vachard and Aretz (2004).
