Taxonomy
Pycnomphalus was named by Lindström (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m S Ludl]. It is not extant. Its type is Pycnomphalus obesus. It is the type genus of Pycnomphalinae.

It was assigned to Anomphalidae by Knight et al. (1960); to Pycnomphalinae by Peel (1984); and to Euomphalina by Sepkoski (2002).
