Serratolamna was named by Landemaine (1991). It is the type genus of Serratolamnidae.
It was assigned to Cretoxyrhinidae by Cappetta and Corral (1999), Underwood and Mitchell (2000), Zalmout and Mustafa (2001), Case et al. (2001), Otero et al. (2013); and to Serratolamnidae by Landemaine (1991), Bogan and Agnolin (2010), Corral et al. (2016), Hoganson et al. (2019), Guinot et al. (2023).
It was assigned to Cretoxyrhinidae by Cappetta and Corral (1999), Underwood and Mitchell (2000), Zalmout and Mustafa (2001), Case et al. (2001), Otero et al.
