Taxonomy
Macrocheilus subcorpulentus was named by Whitfield (1882). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Newtonville, which is in a Chesterian carbonate limestone in the Maxville Formation of Ohio.
It was recombined as Sphaerodoma subcorpulenta by Morse (1911), Snider (1915) and Easton (1942); it was recombined as Holopea subcorpulenta by Girty (1915); it was recombined as Ianthinopsis subcorpulentus by Thein and Nitecki (1974); it was recombined as Strobeus subcorpulentis by Hoare (2004); it was recombined as Globozyga subcorpulenta by Jeffery et al. (1994) and Wagner (2023).
