Stratigraphy comments: The authors placed the Hughes Creek Shale in the Permian, but more recent data indicates that it is late Carboniferous. The collection comes from the lower part of unit D at this locality. The Noginskian Stage is recognized as equivalent to the Virgilian Stage.
