Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | poorly lithified muddy mudstone |
Lithology description: The formation is poorly lithified in places and has been intensively bioturbated; graded bedding and concretions are common throughout and parallel and ripple cross lamination are well developed. A notable additional feature of the formation is the widespread occurrence of small- to giant-sized allochthonous blocks of Nordenskjöld Formation. The base of the formation is not exposed and the upper mudstone-dominated strata are overlain conformably by the sandstones and conglomerates of the Whisky Bay Formation. | |
Environment: | submarine fan |
Geology comments: The Kotick Point Formation is interpreted as representing slope-apron and submarine fan deposits sourced from the western, fault-bounded basin margin. |
