Environment:pond Tectonic setting:non-subsiding area
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:chemical
Minimum sieve size:0.300
Reason for describing collection:general faunal/floral analysis
Museum repositories:DMNH
Collection dates:2010-2011
Collection method comments: Boiled in a dilute solution of sodiumhexametaphosphate, a dispersant. Most samples disaggregated in this procedure, but a few contained highly felted peats that were subsequently treated in cold, 7% KOH solution to aid disaggregation. The organic fraction of each sample was then wet sieved on a 300 μm screen, and insect fossils were isolated from plant residues by the kerosene flotation method.
