Stratigraphy
Formation:Szoc Limestone
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Nummulites laevigatus limestone
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:massive,shelly/skeletal,gray,yellow lithified "limestone"
Lithology description: Massive, yellowish grey carbonate with larger foraminifers (mainly Nummulites, Operculina, Alveolina, Discocyclina) commonly in rock-forming quantities. Lithified based on fossil preservation.
Environment:open shallow subtidal
Geology comments: The lowermost layers with large masses of alveolinids and calcareous algae (Corallinaceae, Dasycladaceae) point to shallow water around 10 m deep. Up section, the algae disappear gradually (first the Dasycladaceae, later the Corallinaceae). Alveolinids also disappear, while nummulitids and discocyclinids become more common. Glauconitic layers at the top-most part of the formation were deposited near the shelf break at around 130 m depth.
