Stratigraphy
Geological group:Porth-y-rhaw Formation:Menevia
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Faunal reported from 12.5-24 m below top of unit, middle Menevian Group. Locality 1 (eastern side of harbour) is the type section of the Menevian Group, middle part of H. parvifrons zone, at shore level, stratigraphically c. 22-24 m below the basal contact of two, almost vertical, 4 m thick sills and approx. 10-12 m stratigraphically below the local base of the Ptychagnostus punctuosus zone. Locality 2 is on the western cliff section, at approximately the same horizon as locality 1. PJW: This was Menevian group, but this is now the Menevia formation within the Porth-y-rhaw group (Fletcher 2017).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:pyritic lithified mudstone
Lithology description: Cleaved pyritic mudstones with occasional thin, sometimes lenticular sandy horizons and several thing (<10 cm) pale beds ... composed of ashy material. Certain beds contain numerous small flattened phosphatic nodules.
Environment:deep-water indet.
Geology comments: Considered euxinic
