Stratigraphy comments: The age of the Roca Formation section (Cerro Caracol and Sierra Blanca localities) was assigned to the Danian based on the record of the foraminifera species Globoconusa daubjergensis and Turborotalia pseudobulloides Plummer, 1927 (Mailhe et al., 1967).

Lithology description: Deposits of the Roca Formation herein analyzed crop out near the Barranca del Palo (Cerro Caracol and Sierra Blanca localities), in the eastern Neuquén Province and consists of grey claystones, mudstone, with variations in the silt and sand fractions, as well as variable proportions of gypsum and tuffaceous sediments (Mailhe et al., 1967; Heisecke et al., 1970).
