Stratigraphy
Geological group: | Werra | Formation: | Copper Shale
Local section: | Tumlin-Podgrodzie IG1 borehole | Local bed: | T1
Local order: | bottom to top
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: The following lithological complexes are currently distinguished within the Zechstein on the so-called "near" Permian-Mesozoic edge of the Holy Cross Paleozoic core: Zechstein Limestone (Ca1) locally underlaying by the Copper-Bearing Shale (in German Kupferschiefer; T1), Lower Anhydrite (Ald) in some sections, Terrigenious Series (T1r) and Upper Anhydrite (A1g) which all form the Werra Cycle (PZ1); the Strassfort Cycle (PZ2) is developed as the Terrigenous Series (T2r), the Grey Pelite (T3), Platy Dolomite (Ca3) and only locally Main Anhydrite (A3) represents the Leine Cycle (PZ3). The uppermost Zechstein deposits consist of the Top Terrigenous Series (Pzt). |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | argillaceous mudstone
Secondary lithology: | dolomite
Lithology description: marly dolomites and argillaceous mudstones with sulfide mineralisations
Environment: | carbonate indet. | Tectonic setting: | foreland basin |
Geology comments: The Holy Cross Mountains belonged to the costal zone of he Germanic basin during the Late Permian and Upper Triassic. Terefore some members of the Zechstein and Buntsandstein lithological sections are missing or reduced in comparison to the deeper part of the basin. |
