Stratigraphy comments: base of this formation (original name translates as "Artoles Marls and Limestones")

Villanueva-Amadoz et al. 2015: The presence of cf. Arecipites microfoveolatus Ibrahim, Afropollis sp. and Stellatopollis barghoornii Doyle from the basal levels of Artoles Formation suggests a late Barremian age (Pons et al. 2013). The schizacean fern spore content supports a Barremian age.

Bover-Arnal et al. 2016: Sr values from samples suggest a middle/late Early Barremian age for the lower-middle part of the Artoles Formation, and a Late Barremian age for the upper part. Previously the Barremian–Aptian boundary has been placed within the Artoles Formation, but late Barremian ammonites have been found in the overlying Morella Formation, ruling out an early Aptian age for the Artoles Formation.
