Stratigraphy
Local bed: | G | ||||
Local order: | bottom to top
Regional section: | Neuwied Basin
Stratigraphy comments: Level G is towards the top of the sequence (site goes level Jb). Middle Middle Pleistocene, Arvicola cantianus, Cromerian interglacial III, roughly 500,000BP. |
Lithology and environment
Lithology description: loess.
Environment: | loess |
Geology comments: There are two levels Ga and Gb, both are loess, with a hiatus between them and two levels of basalt tuff. |
Taphonomy
Size of fossils: | macrofossils,mesofossils |
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection: | biostratigraphic analysis |
Collection method comments: Sparse mollusc fauna, indicative of cold climatic conditions and a rather humid environment. Over 2,500 identifiable micromammal specimens have been collected, after processing several tons of sediment.
Taxonomic list comments:There are two levels Ga and Gb, but the micromammal, mollusca and macrofauna are not subdivided, with the exception of Equus sp. and cervidae indet. in Ga, both of which are found in Gb as well. |
