Stratigraphy
Formation:Brokenback Hill
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Abundant fossils found in sandstone and tuff of Brokenback Hill Formation. The Brokenback Hill Fm ranges from upper Valanginian to middle Albian in age. All colllections have relatively fine temporal resolution however due to ammonite biostratigraphy. SPECIFIC AGE DATA: Same as for GSC C-117401. Some part of Buchia crassicollis zone and upper Valanginian in terms of international standard stages (see Jeletzky, 1965).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:tuffaceous sandstone
Secondary lithology: tuff
Includes fossils?Y
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC DATA: green sandstone; GENERAL INFORMATION: The Brokenback Fm is mainly green crystal tuff, volcanic conglomerate, and tuffaceous sandstone.
Environment:offshore
Geology comments: Relatively deep water conditions, quiet water, soft substrate, some wave action, occasional ripple marks, fairly proximal volcanic source.
