Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:black lithified "limestone"
Lithology description: 1 m. Dark, almost black, medium-bedded laminated limestone.
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: The Lower Tithonian strata of the Sierra de los Organos were laid down in a shallow, poorly ventilated sea. At the end of the Early Tithonian, the conditions of sedimentation changed slightly, mainly due to moderate deepening of the basin. In the Late Tithonian the basin was apparently shallower and the energy of the environment increased. During the Early Cretaceous the environment was one of deeper waters.
