Stratigraphy
Geological group:Chicama Formation:Punta Moreno Member:Upper
Regional section:Chicama Basin Regional bed:COM.50
Regional order:bottom to top
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: The fauna is ascribed to the Alternans zone of the Andean biochronological standard, which is probably equivalent to the Microcanthum zone of Europe, of early Late Tithonian age.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified "siliciclastic"
Lithology description: The Punta Moreno Fm. includes two members. The lower member (850m) is made up of thick conglomerates, greywackes and lithic sandtones, deposited on a proximal turbiditic fan or a slope apron by high-density turbidity currents. The upper member (900m) expresses an evolution toward a slope environment characterized by feeding-channels, olistoliths and sedimentary slidings.
Environment:delta front
Taphonomy
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collection method comments: focus on ammonites
