Lithology description: "grey clay" with pebbles. "...a sandy stratum was met, which was below the stratum in which the large skeleton (M1, No. 2) lay. The bones found here were marked M1, No. 3. This stratum was very wet, and rested on a dark grey, nearly black, clay, also full of moisture, and which emitted a very bad smell when opened up after perhaps millions of years' burial." (Migeod 1928). "laminated grey grit on sand" (Migeod 1931)
