Geography
Country:United States State/province:California County:Fresno
Coordinates: 36.4° North, 120.4° West (view map)
Paleocoordinates:43.9° North, 93.2° West (Wright 2013)
Basis of coordinate:estimated from map
Geographic resolution:outcrop
Time
Period: Paleogene Epoch: Eocene
Stage: Ypresian 10 m.y. bin: Cenozoic 2
Key time interval: Ypresian
Age range of interval: 56 - 48.07 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Lodo Member:Cerros Shale
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Assigned to the "Arroyo Hondo" formation (lower part of the "Capay Stage") by Vokes (1939) and Miller & Downs (1950), but the Lodo Formation is now used for this unit. Calcareous nannofossils indicate the CP10 (Tribrachiatus orthostylus) zone of early Eocene age and the transition between the CP10-CP11 (Discoaster lodoensis) zones, according to Squires (1988).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified "shale"
Environment:deep-water indet.
Geology comments: Foraminifera indicate bathyal depths for the lower part of the Lodo (Stinemeyer, 1974).
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:survey of museum collection
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Museum repositories:UCMP
