Stratigraphy comments: Based on palynological studies by Stover (in Yrigoyen, 1975) on samples from the La Cantera Formation, an Early Cretaceous (pre-Aptian) age was established for this formation.

Primary lithology:gray,green lithified silty siltstone
Secondary lithology:red lithified sandstone
Lithology description: The La Cantera Formation is composed principally of green-gray siltstone ad claystone, with red sandstone and claystone interbedded at the top.
Environment:lacustrine indet.
Geology comments: The formation is interpreted as having been deposited in a lacustrine environment, according to its limited extent, palynoflora and lithological characteristics.
