Stratigraphy
Formation:Guasasa Member:El Americano
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: The limestone belongs to the upper part of the El Americano Formation, probably still Upper Tithonian.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified grainstone
Lithology description: 4 m. Pseudoolitic, sparitic limestone, locally faintly laminated, with clayey-marly intercalations. The content of pseudoolites locally exceeds 65 percent.
Environment:open shallow subtidal
Geology comments: The Lower Tithonian strata of the Sierra de los Organos were laid down in a shallow, poorly ventilated sea. At the end of the Early Tithonian, the conditions of sedimentation changed slightly, mainly due to moderate deepening of the basin. In the Late Tithonian the basin was apparently shallower and the energy of the environment increased.
Taphonomy
