Stratigraphy
Formation:Mexcala
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Fraaije et al. (2006) argued for a Coniacian age on the basis of regional biostratigraphy in Lang & Frerichs (1998), which identified species indicating the Dicarinella concavata biozone in the lower part of the Mexcala Formation. Fraaije et al. (2006) argued that IGM-2448 was at the base of the Mexcala Formation, just above the Turonian Morelos Formation. However, Perrilliat et al. (2000) reported planktic foraminiferans from locality IGM-2448 itself, including Gansserina gansseri, Rosita fornicata, Globotruncana ventricosa, G. linneiana, Rugoglobigerina rugosa, Hedbergella monmouthensis, and Heterohelix globulosa, indicative of an early Maastrichtian age (Brian Huber, pers. comm.).
