Stratigraphy
Formation:Chisholm Shale
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: All mine/pit excavations are from the same thin stratigraphic interval of approximately 9-11 meters below the contact between the Chisholm and the massive Highland Peak Formation at Chisholm Mine. The shale producing the fossils has very few "worm" burrows.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:red or brown, yellow lithified "shale"
Lithology description: 1.5-1.8 meters interval of pink, yellow, tan, brown, white, or red-banded, blocky or irregularly fissile, and silty with limonite joints shale.
Taphonomy
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:some macrofossils
Collection methods:field collection
Collection size:900 specimens
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Collection method comments: All specimens are flattened which distort shape, morphology, and plate relationships.
Taxonomic list comments:Taxonomic list includes inarticulate brachiopods, trilobites, and other echinoderms which were found in the horizon, but not described at the genus/species level.
