Environment/lithology: marine; lithified limestone and lithified shale

• Limestones and limey shales, often cherty. Lower Nesen Formation (80-90m) includes greenish, calcareouns arenites grading upwards into black limestones which are themselves overlain by massive, medium to dark grey fusulinid-limestones. Upper Nesen Formation (150 m) consists of an alternation of black marly limestones and fine grained nodular limestones frequently including layers and irregular concretions of chert, and of dark limey shales grading into limestones. Overlain by 15-20 m of black, dense limestones crowded with black chert in the lower part.
