Rio Bueno Harbor (Pleistocene of Jamaica)

Where: Jamaica (18.5° N, 77.4° W: paleocoordinates 18.5° N, 77.5° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Falmouth Formation, Late/Upper Pleistocene (0.1 - 0.0 Ma)

• At East Rio Bueno Harbor, the Falmouth Formation is disconformably in contact with the Cliona-bored surface of the underlying Hopegate Formation terrace (Land and Epstein, 1970).

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; wackestone

• The Falmouth Formation on the east side of Rio Bueno Harbor represents a back reef/lagoon facies with a paleowater depth of 0.1 to 3 m. (Skrivanek et al., 2018).
• In East Bueno Harbor, the lithology is a molluscan biomicritic wackestone facies that includes sediment-tolerant hemispherical Siderastrea radians, large coppices of branching Porites furcata, which are overlain by small, encrusting S. radians and coarse skeletal sediment infill. Worm borings from Trypanites isp. and Entobia isp. are also present (Skrivanek et al., 2018; Perry 2000; Gordon and Donovan, 1992).

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
