Key time interval: Late Maastrichtian
Age range of interval: 72.2 - 66 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Takli
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Intertrappean beds within Deccan Traps; the informal "Takli Formation" is Maastrichtian in age based on on palynology, vertebrate, and ostracod fauna. Bed is "only a few inches thick" at Takli (Hislop & Hunter, 1855).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified siltstone
Environment:lacustrine - small Tectonic setting:passive margin
Geology comments: "Part of a lake, extensive enough to be bounded at least on the west and south, and probably on all sides, by the horizon" (Hislop & Hunter, 1855). Likely a shallow lake given thin extent of lacustrine bed.
