Stratigraphy
Stratigraphy comments: The geology of the region is characterized by crystalline rocks belonging to the complex Caraíba, New Tank-Ipirá, Health and Mairi (Vieira et al., 2005). It is the latter which occur migmatitic orthogneisses with mafic and ultramafic enclaves in which are embedded the tanks observed in the rural area. In one of these, in the town of Lagoa Towards were discovered fossils of Late Quaternary megafauna. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | breccia |
Secondary lithology: | black mudstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: Tank Pond Towards the fossil has two layers: one baseline, with 1 meter thick, and a top with a thickness of 2 meters. The baseline is characterized as a breach fossiliferous densely packed, consisting of clasts and bioclasts poorly selected. These are arranged randomly in relation to lodging distributed in several size classes. The majority of fossil fuels is fragmented, presenting themselves as well as osteoclasts with angular shapes. The top layer is a black mudstone, rich in organic matter. | |
Environment: | terrestrial indet. |
